Lake MacDonald Dam Upgrade, Noosa, Qld, 2018–2019
Known also as the Six Mile Creek Dam, Lake Macdonald dam was one of many dams pipelined for upgrading as part of Seqwaters dam improvement plan.
The lake Macdonald dam upgrade included the reconstruction of the existing earth embankments and the construction of a new spillway. MRR-Consulting was the pretender manager, organising the EOI submission process.
Cultana Water Hydro Power and Desalination Plant, Port Augusta SA, 2016
Working on the feasibility stage funded by the SA government, the proposal was for a new 225-megawatt hydropower and desalination plant that would pump seawater from Port Augusta, South Australia.
During peak electricity times, the plant would have the capability to supply energy to over 100,000 homes for approximately 8 hours a day.
Thames Water Tunnels and Shafts, London, UK, 2014
The Thames Water Tunnels supply a major part of London’s water supply and is made up of 100-inch concrete pipes transferring potable water which comes from nearby treatment works. As part of the ongoing upgrades to the Tunnels and shafts, MRR-Consulting was engaged for Peer Review and as a technical advisor as well as Bid/Design manager.
Ruataniwha Dam and Water Storage Scheme, Napier, NZ, 2013
Mathias and MRR-Consulting were involved with the design and bid management support and construction interface management for the proposed Ruataniwha Dam and Water Storage Scheme development in the town of Napier in the Hawkes Bay region.
Lesotho Tunnels – Phase 2, Kingdom of Lesotho, Africa, 2011–2012
The Highlands Water project in Lesotho Africa was launched by the Government to build a 165m high concrete rockfill dam which would allow the forming of a reservoir and the increasing of the existing capacity. Matthias was engaged as the Global pursuit manager for a period of 12 months.
Olympic Dam and Desalination Plant, Adelaide, SA, 2011
With the Olympic Dam being the second biggest uranium-producing mine on the planet and plans to expand its open cut mining pit the project included the commissioning of a new desalination plant.
MRR-Consulting was engaged for the Peer Reviewing of the desalination outlet, intake tunnels and marine structures.
Victorian Desalination Plant, Wonthaggi, VIC, Australia, 2008–2010
Located in Dalyston in Southern Victoria the Wonthaggi desalination plant project was announced in 2007 due to the severe drought conditions Melbourne had experienced from the year 2000 where water levels had dropped to around 28% capacity.
It was completed in late 2012 and high grade drinking quality water was produced from a reverse osmosis process used to separate the salt out of seawater.
MRR-Consulting played a key role from 2008-2010 as interim project director, bid manager, design manager and area technical director.
Mecklenburg County Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, Charlotte, NC, USA, 1997–1999
Matthias was the construction and project manager for the Mecklenburg County Wastewater treatment plant upgrade in Charlotte North Carolina from 1997-1999.
Stonecutter Island Sewage Shafts, Tunnels and Risers, Hong Kong, 1995–1996
As a government initiative to establish better controls for handling its sewerage and wastewater to meet the growing population was a substantial undertaking involving the creation of a new treatment plant on stonecutter Island, the construction of a long sea outfall, and in further stages, deep tunnels across it’s northern coast as well as a secondary sewage treatment plant established in a series of caverns.
Matthias role was the construction manager for the Sewage Shafts, Tunnels and Risers.
Theodore Roosevelt Dam Modification, Phoenix, AZ, USA, 1990–1991
Matthias was the field and office engineer and estimator for the modification of the Dam to increase its storage capacity by 20 percent. The Dam was made into a concrete arch Dam and raised by 77 feet.
Two new spillways were created as well as modifications made to the existing powerplant and new outlet works.
